Reactions to Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize
49Nobel Peace Prize
Congratulations dear President
President Obama won Nobel Peace Prize
Why are so many people surprised that President Obama was the recipient of this honor. He is deserving in my eyes. But not in american. There have been a large number of reactions to this.
Obama was humble as we have come to learn about him. He also gave credit where credit is due, to our nation. "I am both surprised and deeply humbled," said Obama at the White House.
He wet on to say;
"Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations. To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize." — Obama. And Good 'ol SEN. JOHN MCCAIN gave this response on CNN;
I can't divine [the Nobel Committee's] intentions, but I think part of their decision-making was expectations. And I'm sure the president understands that he now has even more to live up to. But as Americans, we're proud when our president receives an award of that prestigious category. — Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
Rush Limbaugh had a mouth full to say on Media Matters.
"I think that everybody is laughing, Our president is a worldwide joke. Folks, do you realize something has happened here that we all agree with the Taliban and Iran about and that is he doesn't deserve the award. Now that's hilarious, that I'm on the same side of something that the Taliban, and that we all are on the same side as the Taliban."
The most shocking response was from former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. AMB John Bolton said;
"He should decline it and then ask to be considered again in three or four years when he has a record. - "Today's prize, by the terms of the award itself, was made forPresident Obama's 'extraordinary efforts.' The Nobel Peace Prize should be for achievement, not effort," says Bolton. "Just look at the other Nobel prizes awarded this week, from physics to chemistry, they were given to those who have made tangible progress and achieved in their respective fields. Obama's award is just for effort."
At the Society of Environmental Journalists conference in Madison, Wis. Gore delivered his remarks: Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com
"I think it's extremely well deserved. ... I think it will take some time before people put together all the different moves that linked his speech at the U.N. on the abolishing of nuclear weapons, his shift on the missile defense program in Eastern Europe and the movement of Russia to joining the international consensus that confronted Iran to abide by the nonproliferation treaty." — Former Vice President Al Gore.
Sen. Dick Durban thought it was a tribute to our country:
"I feel good for him. I'm happy for him but I think he put it in the right context. This was not an award for him. It was an award for America and its values, and it really is a tribute to our country and what we stand for." _ Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
The funniest response was by JOE THE COP;
" I'll bet it was the beer summit! The White House garden meeting of Sgt. James Crowley and Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was the only instance I can recall in which President Obama brought together two antagonists in an effort to make peace and find common ground. Crowley and Gates talked, seemed to get along with each other, and agreed to meet again."
